Sunrise on the Selvaggio Blu trekking, Sardinia

Selvaggio Blu - A 5-day trek along one of the most attractive Mediterranean coasts

The Selvaggio Blu is really different from every other trek we are used to. The coast of Baunei, which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea in the central part of Sardinia, is accessible by land on foot only, following ancient paths and mule tracks built by goat shepherds and charcoal burners.

The terrain changes throughout amazing cliffs, ranging from well-marked path, to sharp limestone slabs, passages in the Mediterranean scrub and ledges overlooking the sea.

The first two days allow you to adapt to this wild environment and rhythms. You will learn to move yourself with lightness and agility, to avoid thorny branches and to desire a nice swim in the beautiful coves that you will reach at each stage (Cala Fenile, Portu Pedrosu, Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Portu Mudaloru, Cala Biriala, Cala Sisine).

The difficulty then gradually increases over the last 3 days, where there are also short climbing passages with the use of the rope and abseiling. There are also exposed passages, which requires adequate control, balance and safety in foot support and walking.

For the more technical phases do not worry, our Mountain Guides will be able to give you all the information and reassurance to tackle the passages safely!

Our proposal aims to make the territory and the local culture known, so we will rely on local structures and sheepfolds to fully immerse ourselves in the Sardinian tradition.

Upon your arrival in the afternoon, there will be a moment of welcome, accommodation and dinner. A moment will be dedicated to the briefing with the Alpine Guide for the organization of the week, preparation of supplies and presentation of the itinerary.

The stopping points for the night along the route are pre-established, and we will be reached in the evening and morning for supplies of water, food and material for the night (mats, sleeping bags). Every two participants will have a 60-liter watertight container in which to store all your personal items. Empty suitcases can be left in the B&B until return. Each morning this container will be returned and found at the next stage. The daily backpack will contain water, snacks, packet lunch and technical material. The lighter the better!

Dinners and breakfasts are organized by the organization and, as specified in the introduction, they will have a typical local theme with local products. Communication of any food allergies and intolerances is welcome.

Upon returning from the trek, dinner and overnight stay in the B&B are included, including breakfast in the morning before leaving.

The details of the return trip to Sardinia and other information will be provided with the group's training and are to be considered not included in the organization.

Programm

STAGE 1 - FROM  SANTA MARIA NAVARRESE TO  OVILE US PIGGIUS

Height difference up: 800 m - Hight difference down: 200 m

Duration: 7 hours

The ideal stage as an approach to the following days. Leaving the village by the sea, we will enter the Mediterranean scrub halfway up the coast, following for about an hour and a half an easy path that takes us under the aesthetic spire of Pedra Longa, the official start of the Selvaggio Blu.

Under the imposing wall of Punta Giradili we do a small detour for a break and a swim in the hidden and crystalline Cala Fenile. We will then go up along the Giradili ledge in the direction of the Ovile Us Piggius. Shortly before reaching it, we will ware technical equipment and climb the Punta Giradili wall on its less vertical side, reaching its summit through aided sections, ledges and intricate passages in the bush. We will then return to the Ovile Us Piggius for a typical Sardinian dinner!

STAGE 2 - FROM  OVILE US PIGGIUS  TO  PUNTA SALINAS

Height difference up: 700 m - Hight difference down: 500 m

Duration: 8 hours

Rather long and articulated stage with a great variety of environments, arbutus woods, stony ground, climbing walls and hidden beaches. From the Us Piggius sheepfold, bypassing Mount Ginnirco, we will head towards the cliffs with a magnificent view of the stretch covered and the one still to be done. A steep descent in the middle of terebinths and strawberry trees followed by a long and intricate traverse will lead us to the entrance of Bacu Tenadili. A bacu is a canyon carved by water, but now dry that descends from the mountains to the sea. During the Selvaggio Blu we will see several of them and some will give us a hard time in overcoming them. To enter Bacu Tenadili we will help ourselves with an ancient staircase made of juniper branches while to get out on the other side we will have to climb, secured by the rope, on an incredibly worked rock (those who already climb will be really amazed!). Put the equipment back in the backpack an hour of descent awaits us until Portu Pedrosu for a well-deserved swim. Refreshed and revitalized after the bath, we will continue for about another 3 hours in the direction of Punta Salinas, where a fantastic terrace overlooking the sea will be our bivouac point for the night.

STAGE 3 - FROM  PUNTA SALINAS TO  CALA MARIOLU

Height difference up: 300 m - Hight difference down: 700 m

Duration: 6 hours

Let's get to the heart of the Selvaggio Blu with a spectacular stage! Leaving the Salinas plateau, we will descend towards Cala Goloritzè and its beach, considered for many people one among the most beautiful beaches in the world. After the bath, we will wear the harness and helmet to cross the famous Su Ledere, an exposed ledge that lead to a magnificent via ferrata suspended over a clear blue sea. A long traverse and a descent will finally lead us to Cala Mariolu, a magnificent beach where we will spend the night.

STAGE 4 - FROM  CALA MARIOLU TO OVILE OLOLBISSI

Height difference up: 600 m - Hight difference down: 200 m

Duration: 8 ore

If the first few days were amazing, the last two are even better. From Cala Mariolu we will soon leave the main path continuing along the panoramic crossing in the direction of the caves of Mudaloru. A 40 meters abseiling into the void will allow us to get to the great caves and in a short time to the bay of portu Mudaloru for lunch and a nice dip in the water. After the break, we will climb an old landslide and then continue through woods, short climbs and rappels to the famous natural arch of Su Feilau. Approximately 40 minutes of ascent along Bacu Su Padente will then be necessary to arrive in Ololbissi for the night.

STAGE 5 - FROM  OVILE OLOLBISSI  TO  CALA SISINE

Height difference up: 300 m - Hight difference down: 700 m

Duration: 8 hours

The last day is a mix of vertiginous balconies overlooking the cliff, narrow canyons to cross, huge caves and long rappels up to 45 meters. We do not want to spoil the surprise, we only tell you that the arrival in Cala Sisine will be the worthy conclusion of this unforgettable tour made of effort, but also of great satisfaction! If time permits, we will also make a small detour to one of the most beautiful coves in the Mediterranean, Cala Biriala, which can be reached with a 40-meter descent directly on the beach.
