Zinalrothorn (4221m) - Normal route from the south-east ridge
The path towards this magnificent peak of “Valais” starts directly from the center of Zermatt. On the first day it goes up through pastures along a wide valley up to the “Rothorn Hütte” refuge (3210m), with spectacular views on “Monte Rosa” and on the other peaks of “Valais”. It is worth going up here just to admire the view from the refuge and enjoy the welcome. On the second day, starting before dawn, we immediately set foot on the glacier and then we leave it slipping into a rocky channel that gives access to the upper part. With an easy ascent we reach a snowy saddle with increasing difficulties. After a rocky crag section, the aerial ridge leads to the top. The rocky ridge is one among the most beautiful in the Alps, on an extremely solid and adherent red gneiss.
Definitely a recommended route on this mountain! Less known than others nearby, but offering a very high quality experience off the most crowded routes.
