Mont Blanc (4808 m) - The French Normal Route
Mont Blanc (4,808 m), the highest peak in Western Europe, is a mountaineering enthusiast's dream. The normal French route, which ascends from the Saint-Gervais-les-Bains side via the Tête Rousse and Goûter refuges, is the classic route par excellence: a fascinating itinerary that combines technique, emotion, and breathtaking views.
Climbing Mont Blanc is an experience that remains in the heart: the challenge of the ascent, the magic of sunrise on the glacier, and the thrill of Europe's highest peak.
A journey that combines technique, respect for the mountains, and the joy of sharing an extraordinary achievement.
Three days to enjoy an unforgettable experience in one of the most spectacular settings in the Alps.
Program
We planned the climb over three days to ensure optimal acclimatization and, above all, to avoid passing through the Grand Couloir in the afternoon.
Day 1 – Ascent to the Tête Rousse Refuge (3,165 m)
Departure from Saint-Gervais-les-Bains via the Tramway du Mont Blanc to Nid d’Aigle (2,372 m), the starting point of the climb. The trail ascends through moraines and rocks to the Tête Rousse Refuge, located in a glacial basin at the foot of the Goûter face.
The afternoon is dedicated to acclimatization and preparation for the summit ascent.
Elevation gain: +800 m
Ascent time: 3–4 hours
Overnight stay: Tête Rousse Refuge
Day 2 – Ascent of Mont Blanc (4,808 m) and descent to the Goûter Refuge (3,835 m)
We set off in the early hours of the night. We immediately tackle the Goûter Couloir, a technical section requiring caution, and climb the rocky ridge to the Goûter Refuge. After a short rest, we continue towards the Dôme du Goûter, cross the Vallot (4,362 m), and follow the spectacular Arête des Bosses to the summit of Mont Blanc.
From the summit, the view encompasses the entire Alpine arc: a panorama that makes all the effort worthwhile.
We descend along the same route to the Goûter Refuge, where we spend the night.
Elevation gain: +1,650 m
Elevation loss: –970 m
Total time: 8–10 hours
Overnight stay: Goûter Refuge
Day 3 – Descent
After breakfast, descend along the Goûter route, crossing the early morning Couloir again and the Tête Rousse glacier to Nid d’Aigle, where we take the tram back to Saint-Gervais.
Descent elevation gain: -1,460 m
Descent time: 4–5 hours
Level and Requirements
Challenging itinerary, suitable for well-trained mountaineers familiar with the use of crampons and ice axes.
Recommended Period
From mid-June to mid-September, depending on glacier conditions and weather stability.

It's essential to book well in advance to secure a reservation at the refuges. Bookings open in December/January and sell out quickly. Contact us well in advance (even the year before)!
